Beautification of Roseau begins with Paint-A-Thon

Over the weekends of May 21 and 22 and June 4 and 5, volunteer teams from the Discover Dominica Authority, National Bank of Dominica Ltd, Harris Paints Dominica Ltd, Ministry of Tourism & Legal Affairs, and Tourism students of the Dominica State College alongside qualified painters came out to paint six houses in the city of Roseau as part of the Roseau Paint-A-Thon 2011. The Roseau Paint-A-Thonis a new initiative by the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) presented in 2011 in partnership with Harris Paints Dominica Ltd with sponsorship from National Bank of Dominica Ltd.Exterior painting services of selected houses were at no cost to the homeowners. The activity, which aims at beautifying buildings in the city of Roseau with historic and architectural appeal, was part of annual Tourism Awareness Month activities. The houses were chosen with the assistance of Mrs. Elise Agar of SHAPE (Society of Heritage Preservation and Enhancement) and their readiness reviewed by Mr. Glouster Pierre. Mrs. Agar also assisted with choosing paint colours that would not only add to the aesthetics of the neighbourhoods but are in keeping with the guidelines outlined for historic preservation. The painted houses are located on Cork Street, King George V Street, and Laing Lane, and include the home of the late Sir Clarence Seignoret, third President of Dominica, and the offices of the Dominica National Council of Women. All paints for the activity were sponsored through the partnership with Harris Paints Dominica Ltd.
