Kiss Goodbye to Ugly Old Vinyl Tile
May 6, 2018
Want to get rid of old fashioned linoleum or vinyl tile but don’t have the money to put in a new floor right now– no problem! A coat of paint is one of the most versatile and cost-effective ways to transform rooms with a magic new look. Follow these tips to put new pep in the step of budget-conscious clients.
Secret to Success #1
Give old floors a really good cleaning. Scrub with Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) which is excellent at removing stubborn stains or other degreaser of your choice. Read instructions carefully and always ventilate the work area and wear the correct protective gear. Long sleeves, gloves and safety glasses. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
Secret to Success #2
Sand the surface with a fine grade sandpaper to remove the shiny surface which will provide better ground for paint adhesion and clean to remove all loose debris. Tape off the edges of the floor to protect trim and create sharp lines.
Secret to Success #3
Apply a coat of a high-adhesion primer such as Super Grip Premium Problem-Solving Primer or use a slightly diluted coat (1 part water to 10 parts paint) of top quality Ulttima Plus Acrylic Porch & Patio Enamel and allow to dry thoroughly.
Secret to Success #4
Apply 2 more coats Ulttima Plus Acrylic Porch & Patio Enamel in the desired colour for a hard-wearing surface or paint in the design of your choice. (Available in a full range of colours). For added durability and protection, optionally clear coat with 1-2 coats Aqua Overglaze (a mid-sheen finish).
