Harris Paints donated paint to the Pine community recently to beautify the environs and maintain a wonderfully aesthetically pleasing environment in the Pine area. With the new coat of paint and the programmes aimed at community development the Pine is in for a facelift of sorts. Member of Parliament for St. Michael South East, the Hon. Hamilton Lashley, proudly said that the donation was very timely as "We are on the verge of launching a massive community beautification and enhancement programme in this community." Representative of Harris Paints Senior Vice-President Sales & Marketing, Luke Ticknor, made the donation of 30 gallons of paint to the Pinelands Cricket Academy to paint the pavilion inside and out in addition to painting the courts, providing a scoreboard as well as adding signage around the sporting facilities. Ticknor said, "They certainly need the colour and vibrancy that paint can bring them in their lives in improving the surroundings and that is what we do. The beautification of the community shall be an ongoing process but it will start here at the Academy and pavilion. The programme will not be stagnant it will spread across the entire constituency. We are looking at the various areas and encouraging the residents of the area to not only keep their surroundings beautiful but also to make sure that they are a part of a holistic social development beautification and enhancement programme," said Lashley. The aim is to get the community to be unified in their efforts. The Minister is seeking to get each resident involved with the thought process that living in a community which looks drab and depressing will be reflected in the attitudes. Hence, the community beautification programme is to uplift the community. "The initiative speaks of a community-based company, Harris Paints, and a community-based organisation such as the Pine Cricket Academy partnering," he continued. From as early as Saturday the physical changes will commence. Community practitioner Albert Alleyne said, "We have some young community practitioners, myself included, and youngsters that are a part of the Cricket Academy coming together to help brighten the pavilion and by extension the community. "Harris Paints Representative Ticknor explained that their intention "is to not only provide the paint for a one-time beautification, but we will certainly continue to provide the paint and other essentials required to maintain it as the years go by."
