A thick layer of zinc protects the underlying metal from rusting. It is challenging to paint due to its smooth surface and sometimes a greasy residue.
IMPORTANT! Thoroughly clean and degrease the surface. An ammonia solution works well. Rinse and allow to dry fully.
Use Super Grip Premium Problem-Solving Primer, a high-quality, high-adhesion acrylic primer. (If the surface is damaged, exposing raw metal treat by spot priming with Rust Chem Universal Primer to inhibit rust before proceeding with a full coat of Super Grip.)
Note: Regular alkyds or oil-based paints are not recommended as they can react with zinc and there is a higher risk of delamination.
Choose a high quality acrylic top coat in desired sheen and finish. Ulttima Plus Acrylic Porch & Patio Enamel, Ulttima Plus Gloss Emulsion or Pro Speed Cover Gloss Emulsion are recommended for inside and out.
Clean galvanized roofing periodically, especially if under overhanging trees to achieve longer-lasting protection.

While Harris/ B-H Paints do supply specialist High Performance Coatings (HPCs) these fall outside the scope of this guide.
