Varnishes and some stains provide a hard, protective coat for wood projects.
Scrape off loose flakes, sand the entire area (to smoothen and add grip to oil paint) and thoroughly clean. If previously stained, do a sample area and allow to dry for several days to ensure there is no bleed-through.
Water-Based Acrylic System: Apply 2-3 coats WoodCare Duraglaze Quick Drying Stain as a clear coat or in a colour of your choice.
Oil-Based Polyurethane System: Apply WoodCare High Performance Poly-Stain in clear (2 coats) or apply extra coats to achieve your choice of colour and finish.
Interiors: If desired, apply a clear protective top coat of WoodCare Duraglaze Quick Drying Stain or Maritime Spar Varnish over coloured stains to further enhance the sheen

While Harris/ B-H Paints do supply specialist High Performance Coatings (HPCs) these fall outside the scope of this guide. HPCs are a class of technically advanced protective coatings designed to give superior levels of impact, abrasion and corrosion protection designed for aggressive environments including high traffic areas and in commercial and industrial applications.
