Below is a guide to the use of colours for health and safety purposes in commercial and industrial environments. Post the colour code plan in use at your workplace and ensure all employees are familiar with it.

| Safety Purple | RADIATION | To indicate areas where there is a risk of exposure to radiation | |
| Safety Red | DANGER/FIRE | Dangerous/hazardous areas; highly flammable materials; fire protection equipment, exits & alarms | |
| Safety Yellow | PHYSICAL HAZARDS | Mark walkways, steps, unguarded areas to avoid slips, trips and falls. |

While Harris/ B-H Paints do supply specialist High Performance Coatings (HPCs) these fall outside the scope of this guide. HPCs are a class of technically advanced protective coatings designed to give superior levels of impact, abrasion and corrosion protection designed for aggressive environments including high traffic areas and in commercial and industrial applications.
