The Winners Have Been Declared of the 33rd Harris Paints Regatta

At the top of this year's charts are Esperanza, Shangri La, and Loose the Cat, which competed in the J/24 class, Racer/Cruiser and Multihull classes respectively. Esperanza, captained by Ian Mayers, beat out seven other contenders to take the top spot away from Charlie Gloumeau's," Bunga Bunga in second and third place Grenadian entry Die Hard, captained by Robbie Yearwood. The 2016 Racer/Cruiser class saw 7 entries vying to claim the top prize, but it was Jonathan Gittens who dominated in his vessel Shangri La. Ralph Johnson, chairman of the title sponsor Harris Paints, had to settle for third place in Rapajam, as he was edged out by Commodore of the Barbados Yacht Club Geoffrey Evelyn in Lantana. The only attrition over the two days came in the 3-crew Multihull class, which saw Pringle captained by Alex Mackenzie who was forced to drop out before making the finish as the boat overturned. Ben Armstrong and Loose the Cat crew took first place, with Buccarroo Too captained by Thomas Atwell taking an obvious second. In addition, the youngsters once again had a chance to show their skill in the Dinghy class, where Drew Gill and Kyle Spenard were crowned champions of the Topaz Class over Melissa Boland and Delyth Morris in second, and Alex O'Neill in third representing the Optimist Class. Harris Paintscontinues to show unwavering support of the regatta, which in its 33rd year, ran from July 2 to July 3, with 16 local and 2 regional crews, a total of 120 participants vying for the top spot in the J/24, Racer/Cruiser and Multihull classes.
