Local paints supplier Harris Paints has come on board to assist The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Barbados with the groundwork for hosting the annual Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council Adventurous Journey camp. The camp will be held under the theme Journey to a Greener Barbados and approximately 200 participants will be based at the Lester Vaughan School. On Tuesday Deputy Chairman of the National Council, Garfield Callender accepted a donation of paint supplies from Jennifer Husbands, Customer Service Representative at Harris Paints. The supplies received from Harris paints will be used in the preparation of the base camp at the Lester Vaughan School. The Award programme is very grateful to Harris paints for its donation and all other sponsors for the camp. During August approximately 200 young participants in pursuit of the silver and gold awards will take part in the two week camp. Already confirmed to attend the camp are persons from the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and many others. While the participants are here in Barbados, every opportunity will be used to showcase the island's rich culture. One of the highlights will be the chance to take in the climax of the Crop Over festival on Kadooment Day. A team of dedicated volunteers are continuing intense preparatory work to ensure that the camp is an all-round success. Participants will traverse the island on a hiking expedition that will last over five days and take part in a community service project in conjunction with the Future Centre Trust.
