Students preparing for the Barbados Community College (BCC) Graphic Design Portfolio were able to create beautiful works of arts through a donation from Harris Paints. For the third year running, Harris Paints in its support for youth and the arts, partnered with the Design unit of The Barbados Community College and donated over 25 gallons of paint that included some Cuprinol Shades plus some gallons of the new Perma and Ulttima. The annual showcase of the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design Portfolio at the BCC was held recently at the Grande Salle of the Central Bank of Barbados. It was uniquely entitled #nofilter, which alluded to a generation of social media and information highway enthusiasts. Students explored concept and media through a variety of visual styles that reflected their personal and professional growth as designers. Harris Representative Kimberly Douglas on visiting the students to view their use of the product commented "Many people only think of Harris Paints when they are painting a house but these students have shown the versatility of our product range. We truly wish them all the best as they move now from the classroom to put some of their learnings into everyday use," she added. Visitors to the Grand Salle witnessed a range of areas including product development â skateboard graphics, toy design and the use of recyclable materials. There were also other areas of graphic design on display namely publication design, packaging, campaigns, web graphics, animation, sequential art and TV commercials. The exhibition ran from May 8-12 and a large number of patrons passed through the exhibit to view the works of art and support the students. (PR)
